BJP led government presented the fresh bill of Triple Talaq in Lok Sabha. The bill was introduced as The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2019.
The bill was supported by 186 members while 74 members opposed it. Ravi Shankar Prasad presented the bill as a need for Gender Equality and added that government is committed to safeguard women. The opposition members, claimed the bill is a violation of the Constitution.
Prasad said that, the approx 200 cases of Triple Talaq were reported after the Supreme Court verdict. He also said that, Parliament has power to bring laws and it’s the court, who can interpret.
AIMIM said it a violation of Constitution of India.
Shashi Tharoor opposed the bill and demanded universal law which applies in any matter of abandoning their wives.
