Clean Chit to CJI in Sexual Harassment, Activist Demanding Punishment for False Allegation over CJI

The panel constituted to do enquiry of the allegations levelled on CJI of sexual harassment has given clean chit to CJI.

Soon after the allegation levelled on CJI, the three member panel was constituted for the enquiry. There were two women judges Justice Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee in the panel and the panel was headed by Justice S. A. Bobde.

The panel given clean chit to CJI Ranjan Gogoi as they didn’t find any substance in the allegation.

The Secretary General issued Notice, “The in-house committee has submitted its report dated 5.5.2019 in accordance with the in-house procedure to the next senior-most judge competent to receive the report and also sent a copy to the judge concerned namely the Chief Justice of India.”

In the short notice issued by Secretary General, it also says “no substance” observed as;

“The In-house committee has found no substance in the allegations contained in the complaint dated 19.4.2019 of a former employee of the Supreme Court of India..”

The Men’s Rights Activists, has demanded punishment for the false accusation. The activist also said that, such false allegations of rape, ruin the life of accused men and its not less painful. The person accused in such false cases not only goes through humiliation, mental agony and trauma but also his family members, near and dear ones undergo trauma and harassment.

The activist, referring Swaroop Raj matter, in which he was alleged in similar case, and he committed suicide. He wrote that “I am going as everyone will look at me with that eye even if I come clean“. They also said that, the present situation has become very tough for Indian male due to discrimination in the law, now such discrimination should end.

This case has shown that situation is alarming for Indian men. If CJI can be falsely accused then how can we assume the safety of common man. Are we paying the cost of #Fake #WomenEmpowerment?

The activist demanded for:

  • Provision of formation of Committee before accepting the complaint
  • Provision of equal punishment in false case
  • One Men’s Rights Activist in every Internal Complaint Committee
  • Review of Nirbhaya Act and “misuse” clause to be added
  • Name and Identity of both parties should kept secret until found guilty.
