Jodhpur, December 10: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman and her two sons allegedly died by suicide in Bigmi village of Jodhpur’s Osian area on Tuesday.

The alleged incident of family suicide in Jodhpur due to harassment by daughter-in-law. The deceased were identified as Bhanwari Devi (55) and her sons Navratan Singh (27) and Pradeep Singh (24). The incident has sent shockwaves across the community, raising questions about underlying family disputes and societal pressures.

The bodies were discovered in a room of their house, with foam visible around their mouths. Preliminary police investigations suggest that the trio consumed a poisonous substance, likely obtained from a local market. The exact substance will be determined after a post-mortem examination scheduled by a medical board on Wednesday.

Osian SHO Rajesh Kumar stated that the police received a call about the incident around 11 AM on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers found the deceased lying in their home. Navratan’s cousin, who first discovered the bodies, had transported them to a local hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival.

Possible Motive and Suicide Note

According to a suicide note shared via social media by Navratan before his death, the family accused four individuals, including his wife Neetu Singh and her relatives, of harassment and defamation. The note alleged mental torture and unfair accusations, leading the family to take the extreme step. Screenshots of Navratan’s WhatsApp messages have gone viral, further implicating the named individuals.

Police are investigating these allegations, including the relationship between the accused and the deceased. Navratan’s marriage four months ago reportedly marked the beginning of familial discord, as per neighbors and relatives. Following the marriage, frequent disputes and allegations of dowry harassment exacerbated tensions within the family.

Family History and Background

The tragedy comes after years of hardship for the family. Bhanwari Devi’s husband, Anop Singh, passed away in 2012 due to a fire accident at his snacks factory in Bathinda, Punjab. Following his death, the family returned to their ancestral home in Bigmi village. Both Navratan and Pradeep worked for a finance company and were reportedly under additional financial strain.

This mass suicide has left the local community in mourning. No official FIR has been filed by the family yet, but police investigations are ongoing.

“All angles, including the accusations made in the viral messages, are being thoroughly examined. The mental distress faced by the family seems to have played a significant role,” said SP Ram Murti Joshi.

The incident also highlights the need for societal awareness around mental health and domestic disputes. Advocacy groups have urged families facing similar pressures to seek help through support networks or counseling services rather than resorting to such tragic measures.
