Jodhpur: Eleven members of a Hindu migrant family committed suicide in fear of Jail accused in Domestic Violence

Aug 9, Eleven members of a Hindu migrant family committed suicide in Lodta village of district Jodhpur. It is suspected that, the family committed suicide in fear of Jail as they were accused in Domestic Violence by the in-laws.

Police is suspecting that, the family has committed suicide by consuming some poisonous chemical and then injected insecticide. A woman in the family, Priya was a nurse, and it is suspected that, she injected insecticide into the 10 before she took her life.

The family came to India in 2015 from Sindh province in Pakistan. They belongs to the Bheel community and were living at Lodta village of the Dechu area, and they were hired for farming for the last six months. The 11 members of the family including five children and four women were found dead. They were identified as “Budharam (75), Antara Devi (70), their son, Ravi, 35, daughters Laxmi and Priya and their six grandchildren”.

Only one member Kewal Ram (35) surviving, who claimed that, “he was at the farm to guard the corp from animals and slept there”.

In the preliminary investigation, police suspecting that the family took the grave step due to they were living under threat of Jail, which Kewal Ram’s wife has accused them of domestic violence. Police also said that, survival Kewal Ram’s wife is living with her parents in Jodhpur.

“Between 2018 and 2020, Kewalram and his in-laws had filed complaints and counter complaints accusing each other of harassment. In the latest complaint lodged at Mandor police station in Jodhpur city in March this year, the in-laws accused the entire family of domestic violence,” said another police officer, HT published.
