A 26-year-old young man, an MBA graduate and preparing for the civil service exams ended his life saddened by the extortion by an FB female friend. He hanged himself at his Bhattarahalli residence near KR Puram.
The incident happened on 23 March when he ended his life, the family could not find any suicide note and also had no clue of the said incident. His elder sister somehow finds the reason. She finds out that he was being blackmailed by cyber criminals, who first befriended with him on FB and later made a nude video with him and threatened to share with friends.
The KR Puram had initially registered a case of an unnatural death on 23rd, but the case suddenly took a turn when his sister was informed by the deceased’s friend about some money which he had borrowed from them. Then the sister suspecting some conspiracy, she went to the bank and collected the transactions details. From the transactions history it deepened her suspicion of conspiracy.
She then verified the deceased’s FB profile and messenger, it revealed that one Neha Sharma become his friend over FB, they both started making video chats regularly. One day the woman lured him to strip himself and she recorded him stripping. After making the video, the gang threaten him to send the video to his friends.
The gang extorted money from young around Rs 36,000, and youth paid the amount in several transactions on 22 March.
“The person asked for my brother’s mobile number. I gave my nephew’s number and said it was my brother’s. Later, a person identifying himself as Tejas Ramesh Bhai, brother of Neha Sharma, started messaging my nephew and the messages clearly showed they were blackmailing my brother,” she alleged in her police complaint, quoted by TOI.
“Ramesh asked her nephew to make Rs 21,000 as the final settlement and promised to delete the video permanently. Ramesh claimed that Sharma had three managers — Moin Khan, Javed and Robin Khan. Police named all five persons as accused in the case.”, TOI published it.
After the information from the deceased’s sister and from the KR Puram police investigation, changed the case to extortion, criminal intimidation and abetment to suicide against five suspects named by the youth’s sister on April 3.
