Delhi Public Transport

Yes, you got it right, if everything goes well according to Aam Aadmi Party government’s planning then Delhi Metro and bus rides may be free for women in the national capital .

As per the latest reports, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has met senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials and asked them to submit a proposal in this regard. The transport minister also asked the DMRC officials to inform the state government about the revenue repercussions the move would cause to DMRC.

However, a DMRC officials said it is going to be a major challenge to make travelling free of cost for women. The official said it would lead to a “spurt in ridership” that may pose a serious challenge to the DMRC if they can handle such additional pressure.

Before Delhi introduces free travel for women, states like Haryana and Punjab are already offering free rides for girl students.

This move to going to receive a grand welcome from women of Delhi but at the same time men will still have to pay for the rides.
