Smriti Irani defended men on Marital Rape: Union Minister said during debate in Parliament – Not every man is a rapist | mensplanetnews.in

The issue of marital rape was raised by the opposition in Parliament on Wednesday on which Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani, while giving a statement in favor of the government, said that it is okay to give priority to children and women, but it is wrong to call all married men as rapists.

Not every man is a rapist

During the discussion on the budget presented in the Parliament, Binoy Viswam of the CPI raised the question of ‘Sexual Violence in Married Life’. To this, Smriti Irani replied that marital violence cannot be supported, but in the guise of it, it is not appropriate to condemn every marriage in the country as violent and consider all the men of the country as rapists.

Irani said that children and women are given priority in our country, but we cannot call all men wrong. He asked whether the Center ever paid attention to rape on Section 3 of Domestic Violence and Section 375 of IPC.

What is section 3 of domestic violence

Torturing any woman for dowry, forcibly having physical relations, beating a woman, all these offenses come under Section 3 of Domestic Violence. Committing all these offenses with a woman can be punished with a fine up to life imprisonment.

What is IPC Section 375

When a man has sex with a woman against her will, without her consent, by intimidating her, deceiving a woman who is mentally weak, insane or intoxicated, it is called rape. In this, action is taken against the guilty under section 375. It is punishable with imprisonment of not less than seven years and a maximum of life imprisonment.

Helping women doing more than 30 helplines

Smriti Irani said that more than 30 helplines are working to help women. So far, more than 66 lakh women have been helped through these helplines. He said that 703 ‘One Stop Centers’ are also working to help women in the country. Through these also help has been given to 5 lakh women. The issue of marital rape is sub-judice in the Supreme Court, so it cannot be discussed much.
